Nursing Strategic Plan 2021-2022

The nursing strategic plan for 2021-2022 is critical to the nursing division’s progress toward nursing excellence. Using the Magnet application manual as a guide, this strategic plan focuses on clinical excellence through the high reliability organization process for safety and quality, while also enabling continuing professional growth and patient-safe care transitions.

Nursing Strategic Directives and GoalsNursing Structural Empowerment
  • Obtain ANCC-NCPD accreditation.
  • Successfully implement Unit based Councils.
  • Enculturate a culture of high reliability in nursing.
  • By the third quarter of 2021, implement academic collaboration and coordinate post-graduate certification courses for nursing staff and nurse leaders.
  • Maintain > 80% of RNs with a BSN degree or higher.
  • Implement a nursing career ladder succession strategy.
  • Implement a program for newly graduated nurses to transition to practice.
Nursing Operational Excellence
  • Reduce the number of falls and falls with injury (injury score of 2-4) by 20% by December 30, 2021, compared to baseline.
  • Ensure that there are no bloodstream infections in the hospital: In PICU and ICU-1, the CLABSI rate is higher than the benchmark, and while the rate in RDU is lower than the benchmark, RDU is intermittently having a case of CLABSI.
  • By December 2021, reduce/eliminate the number of hospital-acquired pressure injuries by at least 25% from baseline.
  • Maintain an NDNQI indicator level of 80% above the benchmark.
  • Implement close loop administration of medication, blood and breast milk.
  • Enhance Person Centered Care Approach
  • In February 2021, the Renal Dialysis Unit received an overall score of 82 percent on the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. The goal is to raise the score to at least 85% or higher.
  • Care Partner program implementation.
  • Maintain an inpatient satisfaction level of at least 85%. (Nursing ).
  • Maintain a patient satisfaction score of at least 70% in the Emergency Room (Nursing ).
  • Maintain an OPD satisfaction rate of at least 80%. (Nursing ).
  • Maintain a 50th percentile NDNQI RN satisfaction rating.
  • By August 2021, the Professional Practice Model should be in place.

The nursing strategic plan aims to change and make a significant difference in the way we work and think. Nurses are given the authority to manage projects, take part in decision-making, and change nursing practices based on research and evidence.

Structural Empowerment

Fakeeh Care nursing uses the leadership concept of shared governance. Nurses must be empowered in order to care for their patients and have faith in their abilities. Nursing practitioners are familiar with and use the notion of collaboration. Nurse leaders work with their staff to develop, train, and execute new patient-care processes. This method includes collaboration, problem-solving, and accountability, with the ultimate goal of improving employee happiness, productivity, and patient outcomes  

Purpose

  • Fakeeh Care’s shared governance model is an organizational structure in which clinical nurses have a say in nursing practice, standards, and care quality
  • To provide high-quality nursing care to patients who are admitted to or treated at any of Fakeeh Care’s facilities, departments, or services.
  • Encourage nurses to participate in initiatives that promote excellence in patient care, education, and scientific research.
  • To establish a channel or system for effective communication among members of the Nursing Shared Governance.
  • To improve interprofessional collaboration
  • To encourage nursing professional development.
  • To advance professional knowledge and expertise in nursing care by promoting clinical competency and basic research.
  • To promote the presence and voice of nurses in national healthcare problems.

Shared Governance: Unit-Based Councils

The size and structure of each unit-based council reflects the unit’s distinct qualities. Registered staff nurses, Clinical Resource Nurses, and Charge Nurses are all members.

Quality and Patient Safety Council

Exist at the departmental level, led by nursing staff to evaluate nursing quality performance metrics and nurse-sensitive indicators to maintain clinical nursing practice safety standards consistent with evidence-based practice and requirements of regulatory agencies.

Professional Development Council

Exist at the departmental level, led by nursing staff to foster support and resources for professional growth of Fakeeh Care nurses. To assess the educational needs of staff and plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs developed and presented.

New Knowledge & Research Council

Exist at the departmental level, led by nursing staff to contribute to nursing knowledge through research endeavors and foster staff member knowledge and skills in nursing research and evidence-based practice

Person Centered Care Council

Exist at the departmental level, led by nursing staff to implement effective nursing leadership and management practices to secure the adoption of positive workplace management initiatives.

Resources Utilization Council

Exist at the departmental level, led by nursing staff, and are responsible for developing a budget, putting together a strategy, delivering services, monitoring resources, and keeping up to date.
