The Case

A 59-year-old patient presented with severe abdominal pain, weight loss, and progressive abdominal distension.

Diagnosis

A very rare gastric tumor (≈1% of GI tumors) was identified, exceeding 22 cm in size and occupying nearly half of the abdominal cavity, closely related to major blood vessels. The tumor originates from smooth muscle cells of the stomach wall.

Treatment and Surgical Techniques

An open oncologic surgery was performed due to complexity, including:

  • Complete en bloc tumor resection
  • Partial resection of the stomach and colon
  • Reconstruction of the gastrointestinal tract

The surgery was completed successfully without complications, and the patient was discharged in stable condition after 5 days. Histopathology confirmed complete tumor removal with no residual disease, with a cure rate exceeding 90%.
