A multidisciplinary team at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital – Jeddah successfully saved the life of a newborn with a complex congenital abdominal wall defect that caused a large portion of the intestines to develop outside the abdominal cavity.
The mother arrived at the hospital during labor after the condition had been identified at another hospital. Due to the severity of the case, immediate intervention was required to provide advanced care following delivery.
An emergency cesarean section was performed, after which the newborn was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for stabilization before undergoing delicate surgery. The Pediatric Surgery team successfully returned the intestines to their normal position and repaired the defect.
The newborn showed excellent recovery after surgery, gradually started feeding, and was discharged home in good health. Follow-up visits confirmed proper healing and reassuring outcomes.
The success of the case was made possible through the collaboration of specialists in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Anesthesiology, and Nursing.
This case reflects Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital – Jeddah’s commitment to delivering advanced multidisciplinary care for complex and critical conditions while achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.
