Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital–Jeddah (DSFH-J) has joined the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA) as a Founding Pilot Partner in the development and international validation of the new GSA Sepsis Accreditation Program, marking another important step in the hospital’s continued commitment to patient safety, quality of care, and clinical excellence.
The announcement coincides with World Sepsis Day 2026, as the Global Sepsis Alliance launches the development and international validation phase of the program. The initiative aims to establish a global framework that helps hospitals build reliable and integrated systems for the prevention, early recognition, timely treatment, recovery, measurement, and continuous improvement of sepsis care.
Sepsis remains one of the world’s most significant healthcare challenges, with approximately 48.9 million cases and more than 11 million deaths globally each year. Despite the availability of evidence-based international clinical guidelines, translating these recommendations into consistent and reliable care across an entire hospital system remains a major global challenge.
The program therefore goes beyond individual clinical interventions to evaluate the hospital as a complete system, including leadership and governance, early recognition and escalation, diagnostic capability, antimicrobial therapy and stewardship, resuscitation and critical care, source control, infection prevention, workforce competency, data and outcomes, patient and family engagement, post-sepsis recovery, and continuous quality improvement.
From Standards to Real-World Application
As part of the development phase, the Global Sepsis Alliance is working with a limited international cohort of Founding Pilot Partners representing different healthcare systems and regions around the world.
Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital–Jeddah will contribute to testing the proposed standards in a real-world clinical environment. The pilot process will include structured self-assessment, evidence review, patient and system tracers, data validation, multidisciplinary interviews, and structured feedback on both the standards and assessment methodology. The findings will help refine the final GSA Sepsis Accreditation Standards and methodology ahead of the global launch.
This participation gives the hospital the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of future international standards for sepsis care, while also benefiting from the assessment and learning process to strengthen internal systems of care, measure performance, identify areas for improvement, and support better patient outcomes.

Its current participation with the Global Sepsis Alliance adds a new dimension to this journey. Rather than simply adopting established international standards, the hospital is now contributing to the development and testing of a new international framework that may help shape the future of sepsis care globally.
Through the program, the Global Sepsis Alliance also aims to build a global learning and improvement network that enables hospitals to measure performance, identify gaps, share knowledge and best practices, and continuously strengthen their capabilities in the prevention, recognition, treatment, and recovery from sepsis.
The GSA Sepsis Accreditation Program is targeted for formal international launch in Q1 2027, following completion of the development, pilot testing, international validation, and governance approval processes.
